Privacy Policy

Rainbow Index is a library for the links, articles, files, and notes that you save. It is made to keep your library private. The developer of Rainbow Index does not collect any personal data about you.

What we collect

Nothing. Rainbow Index has no account, no analytics, no advertising, and no tracking. The developer has no server that receives your library or information about how you use the app.

Where your library is stored

Your library is stored on your devices and in your own iCloud account. The records of your library sync through your private iCloud database. The files that you add, offline copies of pages, and a daily backup of your library are in the Rainbow Index folder of your iCloud Drive, which you can see in the Files app and in the Finder. The backup includes your notes, highlights, and the items in Recently Deleted. Your display settings sync through iCloud. Only you can get to this data; the developer cannot see it. Apple’s privacy policy applies to iCloud.

What happens on your device

Search, summaries, suggestions, and answers about your library are made on your device. The smart features use Apple Intelligence on your device only, and they do not send your library to any other service.

The titles, tags, and web addresses of your items, and short parts of your notes, go to your device’s search (Spotlight). You can turn this off in your device’s search settings. Reminder notifications show the titles of your items. Siri and Shortcuts can use the names of your collections. Handoff can send the item that you are looking at to your other devices. These features are part of your devices and your Apple Account.

Websites that you save

When you save a link, Rainbow Index gets the page from its website to show a preview, the article text, and an offline copy. To make previews, summaries, and offline copies, the app can load a saved page in the background, as a web browser does, including the images and scripts of the page. So the services that the page uses can also receive a request. The app checks whether your links still work only when you ask it to. When you open a page in the app, the app loads it from its website. As with any web browser, these websites receive your request and can see technical information such as your IP address. Each website’s own privacy policy applies to it.

Purchases

Rainbow Index Pro is sold through the App Store. Apple handles the payment. The developer does not receive your payment details.

Extensions

The Share Extension uses only the page, text, or files that you share with it. When you open the Safari extension, it reads the address, title, description, and image address of the page, and the text that you selected, and gives them only to Rainbow Index on your Mac. Both extensions store what you save in your library as described above.

Keeping and deleting your data

Your items stay in your library until you delete them. Deleted items stay in Recently Deleted for 30 days. Then they are deleted, with their files. Delete All in Recently Deleted deletes them at once. The backup in iCloud Drive keeps a copy of your library until the next backup replaces it. You can delete the backup yourself: it is the Backup folder in the Rainbow Index folder of iCloud Drive.

Deleting the app does not delete your data from iCloud. To delete it, open the iCloud storage settings (on iPhone or iPad: Settings > your name > iCloud > Storage; on Mac: System Settings > your name > iCloud > Manage), choose Rainbow Index, and delete its data. Then delete the Rainbow Index folder in iCloud Drive.

You can export your whole library at any time, in Settings > Export. You can turn off notifications and Spotlight in your device’s settings, and the Safari extension in Safari’s settings.

Children

Rainbow Index does not collect personal data from anyone, including children.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be on this page with a new date.
